Kidari Movie Review

kidariKidari is by debutant writer director Prasath Murugesan. Associate of Vasantha Balan Prasath has chosen a strong title for his debut film.

Kidari could have very easily been two movies. The writing in Kidari packs a punch. It is heavily stacked with violence all over and keeps coming at you with no respite. The cliché unconvincing romance just about manages to ebb the blood flow. The script is tight and so is the taut nonlinear screenplay that peps up the proceedings. But the big letdown is that the story is all brawn and less brain. The impact is forceful but turns up glorifying mindless violence and revenge. This five incident rolled into one movie script has a plethora of characters and a team of villains for each incident. After a while it gets a lot uneasy and predictable.

The biggest dampener in Kidari is the “Kidari” Sasi Kumar. Sasikumar in his typical typecast role gets tiring few scenes into the movie. His staid and standard “Looped” expressions get boring beyond a point. A different hero could have been more refreshing and more convincing. Nikhila Vimal as his love interest is just there to add a little gloss to the gory movie. Vela Ramamurthy as Komban plays his part to perfection. Others, who are quite a lot, are effective in their roles.

The cinematography is inconsistent. At times very functional the cinematography oscillates between being good and average. The music score by debutant Darbukar Siva is the highlight behind the scenes. His energizing and pulsating score elevates Sasi Kumar’s modest performance. The songs too are rustic and fit the bill. The editing is neat. The direction hardly looks the work of a debutant. Prasath Murugesan turns out a winner with an immaculate presentation. It is his writing that could have been a little cleverer. We are sure to see more of him.

Kidari works well, and it sure would appeal to a large section and sadly the talented Prasath could have better utilized his talents than lengthening this never ending “Madurai aruva”.

KIDARI – KEDI !!!
