HEY JUDE MOVIE REVIEW

HEY JUDE is director Shyamaprasad who has won couple of national awards for his films in Malayalam. HJ is produced by Anil Ambalakkara for Ambalakarra films.

What attracts instantly is the simplicity of the presentation that quietly endears the film to the viewer. Hey Jude has a lot of English dialogues as it is set in Goa, the title too owes its origin to the famous Beatles song by the same name. Everything is quite simple, the emotions, the comedy and even the characters. Unfortunately it is this simplicity that actually wears down the viewer. Beyond a point the movie starts maintaining a flat trajectory that never really delves deep. Some scenes are cliché and contrived to suit convenience than being bold. Perhaps it deceived more than it promised.

Nivin Pauly as Jude is the soul of the film (if there is one), he is simply amazing as Jude and even his subtle movements are a delight to watch. Trisha tries her best to show herself cool but does not come across as one. She as inconsistent as her make up wastes a very good opportunity to do justice to a strong role. The supporting cast in the form of Siddique, Neena Kurup and the rest deliver convincing performances.

Cinematographer Girish captures Goa locales very well. HJ has a bevy of music directors in the form of Ouseppachan, M Jayachandran,Gopi Sundar, Rahul Raj compose music that is completely western to suit the mood of the film. Dialogues are good while editing has been complacent. The movie could have been a good 20 minutes shorter. Direction is decent.

HEY JUDE does not overwhelm despite having the premise to do so. It is more a decent ride with bereft of emotions.

HEY JUDE – JUST CUTE !!
