ENGA AMMA RANI MOVIE REVIEW

Enga Amma Rani is by writer director Bani, who happens to have worked under Samuthrakanni  and for this film he managed to rope in Ilayaraja to score the music.

EAR begins on an interesting note but then it peters down to being dreary and in the second film it takes off completely in a new direction making the audience wonder why they watched such a lengthy first half. The writing is plain and borders on being styled like a documentary. The narration does not serve any purpose and though there are interesting moments and a decent plot the execution is long drawn and the scenes in dull surroundings make it a lot tough to watch.

Dhansika is the saving grace of the movie and she carries the entire movie on her able shoulders. She tries her best to do justice and comes out convincing in an unconvincing script. The others just about do their jobs.

The cinematography is very functional while the much hyped score by Ilayaraja is very ineffective. Even the back ground score does not resonate with the audience. Good editing could have shortened the movie considerably.  Dialogues are OK.

Bani in his attempt to provide something different in a very realistic way comes flat in execution and that is where EAR suffers big time. At the end of the film you wonder “Well what happened”
