Akshita, daughter of actor Vikram, got engaged to DMK president M Karunanidhi’s grandson Manu Ranjith at a traditional event in Chennai on Sunday.
Manu is the son of C K Ranganathan, who heads FMCG giant Cavin Kare. Manu’s mother and Ranganathan’s wife Thenmozhi is the daughter of Karunanidhi’s eldest son M K Muthu, who was an actor.
The engagement was a low-key affair. Director Shankar and other close friends of both the families were present, besides family members and relatives.
The wedding will take place next year, it is learnt. Manu is in-charge of bakery division of Cavin Kare. According to sources, Akshita and Manu were in relationship for a while and recently, elders in their families gave nod for their wedding.
Meanwhile in the professional front, Vikram is busy with ‘Iru Mugan’ and other projects. “He took a week’s off from shooting to attend the engagement,” sources said.
