Lance Klusener says TNPL is a nice opportunity for people in outskirts

LanceFormer South African all-rounder Lance Klusener is currently head coach of Lyca Kovai Kings for the inaugural edition of the India Cements TN Premier League. ‘Zulu’ as he is affectionately known spoke to the tournament’s website. Excerpts of the interview:

On the inaugural edition of the India Cements TN Premier League?
I think it has been extremely well-organised and the standard of play has been excellent. Even the facilities have been good and it has caught a lot of people by surprise. I certainly see the concept spreading to the other states as well.

On working with Lyca Kovai Kings?
I think it’s been great as the boys have welcomed me with open arms. We’ve played well which has helped. I really enjoy working with youngsters and they’ve been open to that. My experience has been great and the organisation has been fantastic. I’ve been extremely well looked after and the same goes for the team.

On the two new venues, Dindigul and Tirunelveli?
I think it’s great that the fans who reside in the outskirts have a chance to witness a live match. They’re getting the opportunity to come down to the ground and support their favourite team. I do hope that they’ll want to come down to Chennai to watch live games in the near future.

On young talent?
I think there’s been a lot of new talent. Also, a lot of youngsters have stood out along with the older guys. I can’t single out any particular name as we are only half-way through the tournament. A lot of youngsters have done well, and from a talent spotter’s perspective, it has been a great opportunity to check out the local players in Tamil Nadu.
