RAEES MOVIE REVIEW

Shah Rukh Khan after middling it with “Dilwale” in his usual form goes out and tries something different with “Raees”. Rahul Dholakia, a national award winner is the director of this film and Raees is helped by an ensemble of wonderful actors.

There is nothing in the story of Raaes that you have not seen or heard. The “Boy to Don” story of Raaes begins rather impressively but as the movie progresses it unfolds into a rather weak and unimaginative film. The supposedly “game” between the police officer in Nawaz Siddiqui and the don SRK too is wafer thin and very juvenile. The plain script has a dull screenplay with annoying placement of songs. The film suffers from a very sedate tempo that unfortunately lasts till the last scene.

Shah Rukh Khan gives out his best and yet it doesn’t suffice. Again it is disappointing that we have seen enough of his usual self, though it is commendable that SRK can pull out certain scenes as only he can at the age of 51. Mahira Khan with the girl next door looks plays the girl next door with hardly any acting potential. Nawaz Siddiqui once again proves why he is so highly rated, but at the same time a meaty characterization could have helped more. Atul Kulkarni is as good as you can get and is good to see him back in Bollywood.

The music by Ram Sampath is good and the songs are above average. The cinematography is very good while the editing could have been better. The dialogues too are without substance and the direction just about manages to keep this insipid film afloat.

Raees for all its hype fails to live up to it and wobbles past the finish line with little to offer to the audience.
