IPPADAI VELLUM MOVIE REVIEW

Lyca Productions produces IPPADAI VELLUM that is written and directed by Sigarm Thodu fame Gaurav.

Gaurav has a knack for providing convincing information on technology and its causes as well as uses. He does not take cinematic liberties in this and has to be appreciated for his homework. He proved it in Sigaram Thodu and in EV he continues from where he left. The movie begins on a very impressive scale and more or less manages to hold breath but somewhere after the second half it falters and comes to an ordinary halt. Yet the movie manages to be gripping with intelligent weave of coincidences and interplays of scenes. The sad part is the very unconvincing characterization of the villain and his scheme that is integral to the story of the movie. The so called terrorists have all names specific to a particular religion and that confuses the viewer more. The background or the reasons for are left unexplained and the tame tepid ending douses all enthusiasm.

Udhaynidhi deserves acknowledgement for playing a much understated role while Soori too is different here away from his usual trash comic roles he is known for. The humour is woven in the screenplay and works. Radhika is in a blink miss role and RK is decent in his performance. Daniel Balaji spews venom without telling us why.

Music by D Imman is average and the songs too are just about listen-worthy. Cinematography by Richard Nathan is noteworthy right from the first frame while editing too is a good job done. Dialogues are good and direction by Gaurav continues to impress.
