Courtyard by Marriott, Chennai presents ‘Art Meets Food’

Courtyard by Marriott presents ‘Art Meets Food’ Sunday Brunch, a unique concept that gives patrons a multisensory experience through food and art. Happening from 22nd April 2018, Sunday, the artistic buffet spread is handcrafted by Executive Chef Sanjeev Ranjan, complementing the art show displayed at the brunch. Artists Pradeep Mishra, Madhu Venugopal, K Sudheesh and P.P Pradeep will be exhibiting their paintings at Paprika Café, Courtyard by Marriott. The artwork will be on display from 20th April, 2018.

Speaking about the Art Brunch, Stephen D’Souza, Hotel Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Chennai said, “Through the unique concept of an ‘Art Meets Food’ Brunch, we want to give our diners an extraordinary multisensory experience through food, art and music. We have worked with our Executive Chef Sanjeev Ranjan and Art Curator Jitha Karthikeyan to transform our restaurant into an Art Gallery with a stunning display of visual art and culinary art.”

Expressing the idea behind the concept, he says “In today’s busy world, we really need to find more ways to take time to encourage, inspire, uplift and stimulate creativity – and what better way to do it than through food and art!”

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Pradeep L. Mishra

Born in 1977, Pradeep has completed his BFA and MFA from Sir J.J.School of Art, Mumbai in 2004. He has taken part in residency programs in Tokyo and Delhi. The artist lives and works in Mumbai. Pradeep Mishra draws on the natural world for the subjects of his paintings. His works portray his environmental concerns and his sensitivity towards sharing space with other fellow beings. “I work to feel the breath of life. Other beings appear and enter in relation to the space within which we all live in.” His solo exhibitions include “Motherland” Palette Art Gallery New Delhi.2014. “Lovetolive” Palette Art Gallery New Delhi.2010. His public art projects include “Incubatinglove”, Bori Bandar platform no.8, ArtO2, Mumbai2017, “Sailing in love”, Goodhome, Worli, Mumbai 2017 “Motherland” Bandra Art Fest 2015 and more. He has participated in group shows in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Kochi and Dubai.

Madhu Venugopal

Born in 1976 in Kochi, Madhu Venugopal completed his BFA in 1998 from the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. His solo exhibitions include: RECLUSE’S SONATA, Art Hub, Abu Dhabi, 2014, REASSURANCE, Gallery Blue Spade, Bangalore, 2010, VERNACULAR / SUSPENDED, Palette Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2009. He has participated in group shows in Kochi, Bangalore, Chennai and in the Dubai Art Fair (Dubai). He has participated in the 2008 Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh and the Kashi Art Residency, Kochi. He received the 2008 State Award, for his painting ‘Debate 1’. Madhu Venugopal’s work is predominated by metaphors to represent the struggles of the common man.

K Sudheesh

Born in 1971 Calicut, Kerala, he studied Art in Universal Art School Calicut and Govt.College of Fine Arts Trissur (5 year national diploma). He then completed BFA from Mysore Open University. Sudheesh’s paintings have been featuring images of Island Cherala, an imaginary island, for the past 16 years. Cherala is believed to be a pseudonym of Kerala in the past. Earth, nature and man are the major themes in his paintings, which explores rural life, culture and circumstances of people in his locality and the indestructible bond between man and nature. He currently works as a Faculty of Fine Arts Sadhbhavana World School, Calicut. His exhibitions include KHALWATH with santhan n.v-Darbar Hall –Kochi in 2015, ISLAND CHERALA DARKNESS AT NOON Talassery,kerala in 2011 ,MYTHS OF UNSPOKEN BIOSPHERES with jeetender ojha, GUILD Art Gallery, Mumbai 2008,LITTLE WATER COLOUR WORKS Kashi Café Art Gallery, Fort Kochi 2003, Kerala Lalithakala Academi Art Gallery Calicut, 1993 & 1999, Govt College of Fine Arts Trissur 1992. He has won Lalit Kala Akademi State Award in Kerala. He has hosted exhibitions and camps all over India.

P.P.Pradeep

Born in 1981 in Kerala, Pradeep completed his MFA from Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai in 2008. He completed his BFA at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, Kerala, with a first rank. He has won the State Award in 2008 and has participated in several shows including ‘Everyone is the other, no one is himself – Gallery 27,Kochi, 2017, Art for Concern – Mumbai, 2015,2014, Reflected reality – Kalakriti Art Gallery, Hyderabad, 2014, Art for young collectors – Galerie Mirchandani + Stienruecke, Mumbai,2014 and many more and several other group shows nationally. Currently residing and working in Mumbai, P.P. Pradeep’s paintings tries to depict the fast changing social and cultural epoch. His works explore the overpowering invasion of modern and urban cultures and how this has often affected the environment, especially with the overuse of insecticides, fertilizers and genetic mutation.
