FAMILY PADAM MOVIE REVIEW

Family Padam is a comedy romantic drama written and directed by Selvah Kumar Thirumaaran. The film is produced by K. Balaji under UK Creations.

The film takes us on a journey back in time, not literally but metaphorically, with its earthy storytelling and grounded presentation. Despite being set in the present, it feels like a throwback to an era when simplicity and sincerity were the hallmarks of cinema. The contemporary setting is a mere backdrop for a narrative that is refreshingly devoid of the flashy tropes and commercial compromises that dominate today’s films.

The plot itself treads familiar territory—a family drama at its core, with themes that we’ve seen countless times before. The screenplay doesn’t reinvent the wheel, nor does it pretend to. It stays within the boundaries of its premise, rarely deviating to accommodate unnecessary masala or gimmicky subplots. And yet, against all odds, the film manages to strike a chord.

So, what makes it work? It’s the commitment to its simplicity. In an age where grandiose action sequences, borrowed ideas, and trend-chasing narratives rule the roost, this film stands apart for its refusal to conform. It doesn’t try to wow you with twists or overwhelm you with grandeur. Instead, it offers a heartfelt, old-school story that earns its moments of connection through sincerity.
The makers deserve applause for their boldness. It takes courage to present a clean, straightforward film, especially in a climate where audiences are bombarded with contemporary, globalized themes. This isn’t a film trying to emulate the West or cater to the larger-than-life cinematic tastes of the current generation. Instead, it plants itself firmly in the soil of its cultural roots, drawing its strength from a sense of authenticity.

Udhay, Karthik and Vivek Prasanna perform well. Subiksha and Sreeja too do good.

Cinematgraphy by Meyyendiran is decent. Background score and songs by Ajesh Ashok is average. Dialogues are OK and direction for a debutant is neat.

FAMILY is an average family entertainer !!

FAMILY – FAMILIAR !!
