DO PATTI MOVIE REVIEW

DO PATTI is a romantic thriller film directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi and written by Kanika Dhillon. It also marks Kriti Sanon’s production debut, under her banner Blue Butterfly Films.

The idea of the film is nothing new, the twisted twins concept has been done to dust in Indian films. Cliché again is the staging of these thriller films in picturesque places, more so for cinematic liberties with logic. A few minutes into the film, the predictability is all over the place. The screenplay is uninventive and characterisation is as hollow as the dead trees in woods. With everyone twisted in their own ways,their loyalty and treachery doesn’t make any sense. Like mentioned before the advantage of setting up such a plot in a hill station is to keep the story to the confines of the hills. The pace of the film is flat and clumsy and the feminist views whatsoever that the film was supposed to champion comes across as contrived as it can and it also gets suicidal at times. As the film ambles itself into the courtroom drama, that portion too feels like a tasteless potion. The twist in the climax is as visible as the mountain ranges in the background of the film.

Kirti Sanon, being the producer has her oozing everything on screen and does make an impression though there are many references to her performance from earlier films of different stars. Kajol unfortunately comes out a whimper, in her attempt to be a Vidya Balan. The cuss words and her aggressiveness make no impact. The fake rides of her on her Bullet bike was extremely funny. Shaheer Shaikh is OK in a one dimensional role.

Cinematography by Mart Ratassepp is neat. Background score by Anurag Saikia is average at its best. The songs by Sachet – Parampara and Tanishk Bagchi are hummable. Dialogues are OK. Direction is ordinary.
