Velammal students win gold at World Cadet Chess championship 2018

Master D.Gukesh and Miss B. Savithashri ,Class 7 students from Velammal Vidyalaya, Mel Ayanambakkam represented India and won Gold in the under 12 open and girls category respectively in World cadet chess championship 2018 held in Santiago de compostela , Spain recently thereby becoming World champions in their respective groups.

In this prestigious event , Total 851 participants from 86 countries participated from all over the world in which 542 players in open and 309 players in girls section took part.

In under 12 open section, IM D.Gukesh, class 7 student from Velammal Vidyalaya represented India and he was the topseed with rating 2457 and he lived up to his seeding by scoring 10 points out of 11 rounds and emerged clear winner with 1.5 points ahead of 2nd placed Russian prodigy Murzin volodar.

In the under 12 girls section, Miss B. Savithashri, class 7 student from Velammal Vidyalaya represented India and started 19th seed with rating 1745 had an amazing run with 9 wins and 2 draws and emerged clear winner with half point lead over 2nd placed Uzbek player omonova.
