Matrimonial disputes in Mollywood

Marriages are made in heaven, they say. But this is not applicable to all, so to speak, as some weddings go sour very soon. If you include Amala Paul, then there are more than half a dozen divorces among Malayalam actresses in the recent years. Here are some of them:

kavyamadhavanKAVYA MADHAVAN

Kavya Madhavan, a leading actress in Malayalam who is also popular in Tamil, married NRI Nishal Chandra on February 9 in 2009. After the marriage she moved to Kuwait to be with her husband.

However, she returned home in June the same year and did not go back thereafter. She filed a divorce petition with the Family Court at Ernakulam on 24 July 2010.

Kavya and Nischal appeared before the Ernakulam Family Court on 25 May 2011 and expressed their willingness for a mutual divorce. She was granted divorce by court on 30 May 2011.

LISSY

lissypriyadarshanLissy fell in love with the famous film director Priyadarshan, and got married to him on 13 December 1990. After marriage, she gave up acting and adopted the name Lakshmi for religious reasons.

After the birth of her son, Lissy adopted the Hindu religion from Arya Samaj. Her daughter Kalyani is studying in New York and her son Siddharth is studying in San Francisco.

Lissy has filed for divorce on 1st of Dec 2014 at Chennai family court to be separated from Priyadarshan after a 24 years long marriage. She now resides in Chennai.

manjuwarrierdileepMANJU WARRIER

Manju married actor Dileep on 20 October 1998 at Aluva Sri Krishna Temple. The couple have a daughter, Meenakshi. Dileep and Manju filed for divorce in 2014 and it was granted in January 2015.

She made a comeback to cinema after a 14-year sabbatical with the critically and commercially successful film How Old Are You (2014) which fetched her many accolades notably her fifth Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

She was born in Nagercoil in the year 1978. Her father, Madhavan Warrier, was working with Sundaram Finance, Nagercoil regional office. She did her primary schooling in CSI Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Nagercoil. After her father got promoted, they returned to Kerala and settled in Kannur.

Mamta got engaged to Prajith Padmanabhan, a Bahrain based businessman, also her childhood friend, on 11 November 2011. They got married on 28 December 2011 in Kozhikode.

On 12 December 2012, the couple applied for divorce. A cancer survivor, She battled Hodgkin’s lymphoma with positive energy and confidence. In 2012, Mamta starting working in television too, hosting the quiz show Kayyil Oru Kodi on Surya TV.

She was born on 14 November 1984 to Ambalappat Mohandas and Ganga into a Malayali family which originally hails from Kannur. She attended the Indian School, Bahrain until 2002 and is an alumna of the School. She pursued a Bachelor’s degree at Mount Carmel College Bangalore.

Saritha married Mollywood actor Mukesh on 2 September 1988 and has two sons Shravan and Tejas. In March 2007, the couple filed for divorce and it was withdrawn in 2011 by Saritha, however they got divorced later.

Saritha is now staying with her son Shravan in a separate house at UAE, Dubai. Saritha was born in kerala and made her acting debut through ‘Maro Charithra’, a Telugu film directed by K. Balachander. The movie dealt with cross-cultural romance, where she acted opposite Kamal Haasan as a Telugu-speaking girl.

She received more offers in Tamil films mostly directed by Balachander. Some of her films include ‘Thappu Thalangal’, ‘Idi Katha Kaadu’, ‘Vandichakkaram’, ‘Netrikan’, ‘Agni Sakshi’, ‘Puthukavithai’, ‘Kalyana Agathigal’ and ‘Achamillai Achamillai’. Her performance in ‘Vandichakkaram’ (1980) and ‘Achamillai Achamillai’ (1984) won her Filmfare Best Tamil Actress awards.
