Karaikudi Kaalai let down by dropped catches: Anirudha Srikkanth

Anirudha Srikkanth, the KaraikudiKaalai opener addressed the media after scoring his maiden India Cements Ltd TNPL fifty against LYCA Kovai Kings at the India Cements Ltd Ground, Sankarnagar on Sunday. Here are the excerpts from the press conference.

What were your thoughts about the game?

Ans: Our fielding let us down and the two-three catches we dropped also didn’t help us. There were many misfields as well. Our bowlers tried their best but we couldn’t defend the score due to our fielding. In the last 8 balls, they needed 16 runs but at death even if one ball gets away, it changes the course of the game.

How do you plan to improve in the next game?

Ans: Last season, our fielding was good and even after losing initial games, we came back into the tournament due to our fielding and bowling. This is a jolt, but we will work hard and come back strongly.

Do you think bowling another bowler in the 19th over might have changed the result?

Ans: It was a gamble at that time. Either a fast bowler or a left arm spinner should bowl with 19 to get in two overs. First four deliveries were great, but last two balls the credit should be given to the batsman. These types of things happen in cricket. Generally, 19 to get in two overs favour the batting team and if we did pull off a victory, it would have been a surprise win.

Any thoughts on batting?

Ans: On a pitch like this, 158 was a good score, I think. Maybe we fell short by 10 runs, but the wicket is slow here. As the tournament progresses, it is only expected to get slower.
