Hemang Badani: Chepauk Super Gillies will take it one game at a time

Ahead of Chepauk Super Gillies’ first match in the TNPL 2017, Coach Hemang Badani and skipper Rajagopal Sathish spoke to the media on Sunday. Here are the excerpts from the press conference.

Do you see any difference in Tirunelveli ground when compared to last year?

Hemang Badani (HB): The ground looks better when compared to last year and the pitch also looks like it will host high scoring games. Last year, all the games were comparatively low scoring ones and pitch assisted slower bowlers. But this time we are expecting something different and we would need to adapt according to the situation.

Do you have any new additions to your Chepauk Super Gillies squad?

HB: Two new players have joined. One is a left-arm seamer R Suthesh and the other is an India Under-19 player S Radhakrishnan. The latter is not part of the squad since he is playing in England at present.

Who are the tough competitors according to you in the tournament?

HB: In a tournament like this, it is tough to pin point at one opponent. Match changes in an over or even in a delivery in a format like this. So we will have to look at it match after match and play well against a particular team on the given day. If you see yesterday’s game, Dindigul (Dragons) looked like they will win, but when R Vivek got out, Albert TUTI Patriots grabbed at the opportunity and ran away with the game.

Talk about the VB Thiruvallur Veerans with whom you are competing against, tomorrow.

Rajagopal Sathish (RS): They did well last year. They also have new additions and India Cements Ltd TNPL provides an opportunity for cricketers in front of live crowds, under lights with media coverage. Last year, players would have experienced the pressure and would have spoken to analysts about their game plan etc. So, all teams will provide tough fight and it all boils down to that particular day as to who will come out victorious.

Last year, the title was so close yet so far..

RS: We were hurt by the loss in the finals last year. Yes, winning the title is the ultimate goal, but we aren’t thinking about that yet. It is a step by step process. We aren’t thinking too much ahead.
