YAANUM THEEYAVAN MOVIE REVIEW

Debutant Prashanth Shekar is the writer director for this movie and he has been an assistant in some well known movies before.

It was a little unsettling to see the hero of the movie being credited with “story discussion”, while the story is made up of a decent plot the script suffers due to some weak writing. The weak characterization does not help either and so the pumped up scenes do not make any impression whatsoever. The sub plots are cliché and very much contrived.

Ashwin Jerome the lead role is as wooden as you can get and brings the entire frame to a freeze with his cold expressions. Varsha Bollamma might get a few fans as her resemblance to Nazriya cannot be ignored and yet she manages to infuse some life into the scenes, though her costumes and makeup required a lot of work. Raju Sundaram is the pick of the cast and is well groomed to play the role of the villain; he is the one who reminds the viewers that this is a thriller and he ought to be taken seriously. Others play their part.

Technically the film is a dud, with some very basic behind the camera work, listless editing, and very bare production budget. All these show on the screen and the movie takes a beating because of this. Music by Achu is the saving grace and he has done his bit without compromising for a very average movie as this. Direction is weak.

YAANUM THEEYAVAN could have been a better movie but a lot had to be done in every department.
