Uriyadi Movie Review

uriyadi“URIYADI” sticks truly to its name at least in the action sequences of the movie. The story set in the 1990’s unsurprisingly has relevance even now. Though the plot of the movie is focused on caste politics, the story touches a lot of other things including the crowd favorite “Fake Liquor”.

“URIYADI” is as raw as you can get. There are hardly any digressions; even the romance in the movie is just a mention. The narration rarely deviates and even the short songs fit in well. There are quite a few amateurish moments in the movie as well as lack of reason, but they can be conveniently ignored. The goal of the movie was to provide viewers a “bloody” story and it sticks to it till the edgy climax. The message in the movie is not preached but is very clear and audible.

The story works largely because of its sensitivity and its consequence.

Most of the actors including the lead cast are newbie’s and they do quite a decent job. The performance is largely effective due to the nonchalance of commercial elements in the screenplay. The rest of the casting fit the bill well.

The cinematography is wonderful and the tone fiery. Editing is intelligent helped by the shortness in the length of the movie. The songs are OK but the background score in the early half of the movie with the 90’s songs in the background is irritating. The action is top notch. Vijay Kumar as a “debutant” writer and director has done a commendable job and deserves special mention for his approach.

URIYADI is effective more because it is plain and brutally honest sans the regular ingredients a movie like this could have comfortably accommodated.

URIYADI – SULEER !!!
