TUBELIGHT MOVIE REVIEW

The famous hit duo Kabir Khan and Salman Khan are back with Tubelight. The movie has been in the news for its inspiration and adaptation from “Little boy”.

Firstly, Kabir gets everything right behind the screen. A simple story, a cute kid and a wonderful message, but he gets one thing wrong and that is Salman Khan. Salman Khan bears down on the script so much that the screenplay takes a beating. Despite the earthy setting and a wonderful supporting cast the movie fails to move and is flat devoid of any emotion. It also could be because of the tussle between the “candy” scenes involving Salman and the definite ones involving the others.

This yes, in Salman Khan’s own words is his “toughest role” so far and sadly it turns out to be beyond his reach. It is evident while watching the movie that Salman took this role to be a walk in the park and desisted from making any home work or even physical changes. A beefy Salman in no angle looks convincing to play the role of a “challenged” guy despite his contrived facial reactions. It is more buffoonery than characterization. Sohail Khan in fact betters the star Khan in his OK performance. But the reason why the movie is even half worth watching would be the “softie” Matin Ray Tangu and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu. They own their scenes and are a delight to watch. Om Puri reminds us why he is touted to be one of the finest actors to have graced the silver screen and makes us miss him more. It’s a Salman Khan film and sadly for the viewers it remains that, as the others get little to do, with the Khan taking more of the screen time.

Technically Tubelight is spot on, wonderful camera work from Aseem Mishra shows us eye pleasing locales, while his work on the “war front” too deserves mention. Music is by Pritam and he churns out good music that suits the mood of the film. Dialogues are good while some more effort in the direction department could have made the movie a lot better.

Tubelight unfortunately fails because of one man and that is the lead star Salman Khan, for a man of limited abilities on screen, it sure was a catastrophic casting. For many neutral fans out there, they must have seen this coming.

TUBELIGHT – SALMAN KHAN !!
