THODARI MOVIE REVIEW

thodari-movie-first-look-released-dhanush-keerthi-sureshWriter/Director Prabhu Solomon is famous for his unrefined characters and simple story telling. Myna and Kumki exemplified it while his last outing Kayal unfortunately did not work. He is back with “Thodari” with Dhanush and the expectations are sky high with the coming together of this talented pair.

Like his previous films Prabhu picks up ordinary characters, but this time he puts them on an express train. It’s only the train in the movie that travels at an astronomical speed, while the story jaunts like a passenger train with overcrowded characters in its compartments. The flaky script does not hold water and the element of adventure that is so long anticipated derails long before it begins. The screenplay has its share of decent moments but they are far and few and there are many scenes that are absolutely ridiculous.

Dhanush is as good as you can get and has not done anything that he so far has not done, but it is Keerthy Suresh who overshadows Dhanush with a very good performance. Thambi Ramaih deserves a break or the viewers deserve a break from him, whichever way the better. Radha ravi comes appears in a role that is tailor made for him. The others make up the huge numbers in the overcrowded train.

Prabhu usually relies on two of his trusted lieutenants, cinematographer Vetrivel and Music director Imman to shrewdly camouflage the inadequacies in his scripts. Sadly this time, the cinematographer’s good work is let down by poor CGI, while Imman’s work does not match the standards set in the duo’s earlier works. The editing is sloppy to say the least. The dialogues are average and the direction is lackluster.

Thodari had set very high hopes for fans of both Dhanush and Prabhu Solomon. The train background added more fuel to the already high prospects. Sadly this train journey is mostly weary and entertains in small parts. Prabhu’s strange strategy to play to the gallery does not reap rewards and it would be rewarding for fans to see him go back to his early days of sensible writing.
