Theeran Adhigaram Ondru Movie Review

“Sathuranga Vettai” can easily rank as one of the best every con movies to come out of the Kollywood stable and it still evokes fond memories in the minds of the audience and hence the Vinoth’s next movie was greatly anticipated. Theeran Adhigaram Ondru is Vinoth’s second offering.

Vinoth in his second movie too, picks up a true incident and indulges in cinematic liberties for TAO. The very first scene brings you to rapt attention but later you wonder what the significance for the flashback was. Once the movie cuts to the flashback it more or less is effortless in narration. Sadly it is instances where the movie tries to take the commercial route that the movie goes way off the track. The romance portion especially the “musing over” could have been a lot shorter and also a few other action portions should have been done away with. Yet the narration, the pace and the rooting for the cop should work with the audience. For a change this Tamil movie does not try to be lofty and preachy and yet is subtle in its messaging.

Karthi as the cop does what is expected of him; he fits the bill of police officer and does justice. Rakul Preet Singh plays the cute innocent silly lover we have time and again seen. Bose Venkat as the side kick is impressive while the others are good in their roles.

Sathyan is the cinematographer and is strictly business in his work that suits the screenplay. Ghibran does a decent job with the background score while the songs are less impressive and also act as “toilet breaks”. Shivanandeeswaran does a neat job at the edit table though a few cuts could have helped. Dialogues are good while Vinoth proves himself yet again in the direction department.

Theeran Adhigaram Ondru could have been a much better product had it not been for its clichés and cinematic indulgence.
