The film rather begins unimpressively and very casually. Predictable cliche scenes bring in a good yawn. The first half is less engaging. The second half gets a bit exciting with JJ’s trademark twists and turns in its attempt to compensate the tiring journey so far. Forced humour, multiple plots and motives supply enough ammunition for the suspense, but a skewed screenplay and the brittle characterization pulls down the movie from what it could have been.
Karthi offers nothing new. Jyothika’s definition of a strong character is to literally keep her “chin up” all the time. Satyaraj has the meatiest role and delivers what’s expected of him. Sowcar Janaki is a pleasant surprise.
Rajashekar’s cinematography keeps it simple. Govind Vasanth’s music too is standard with the songs having less impact. Dialogues are plain and editing by Vinayak could have been a lot better. Direction by JJ is a let down.
THAMBI despite its twists is an ordinary movie largely because the expected twists and the unexpected logical loopholes subsume the film without any worthy residue.
