Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – MOVIE REVIEW

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a computer-animated superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Spider-Man. Produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and is set in a shared multiverse of alternate universes called the “Spider-Verse”. The film is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson (in their feature directorial debuts), from a screenplay written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller (both who also co-produce), and David Callaham. Shameik Moore voices Miles, starring alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Vélez, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya and Oscar Isaac.

What instantly works for this film is the comic style story telling with fantastic animation that immediately makes an impression. This exceptionality transports the viewer to an outer world that is filled with amazing references to the past still retaining the charm of the original with its smart wit and the usual save the world theory that is peppered with some family drama. With a barrage of super hero films that seem to have created their own universes and a sense of tiredness for the viewer, this film takes its universe to another level with incredible metaphors and brilliant ideas. The rebellion is something that would bring the roof down for the viewers and the constant banter with the past is good fun. There is a slight lag in the middle but the film immediately bounces back for some breathtaking action.

The voice over makes a terrific impact with a lot of celebrity voices. Shameik Moore is close to being perfect. Steinfeld, Henry, Rae, Jake Johnson, Schwartzman, Velez, Daniel Kaluuya, Isaac all do their best delivering their best having been entertained by this amusing script.

With a stunningly lavish world and a thoughtful coming-of-age story, the film is a highly satisfying and entertaining adventure, and something that must be enjoyed on a giant theatre scree

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a compelling watch on the main screen, the biggest screen..
