Skiptrace Movie Review

Skiptrace-3Jackie Chan is once again at it with his version of road comedy tagging Johnny Knoxville for this trip. This buddy comedy has opened huge in China and is now being released all over the world.

There is a usual drill in most of Jackie Chan’s movies. The comedy action, the lady villain with who he has to fight, the reference to the OO in the wOOman, the Chinese American partnership. These are in abundance in Skiptrace. The story is the same yarn that JC keeps spinning every movie, though déjà vu it still manages to entertain though it gets tiring after a while. The lack of newness in the script is cloaked with exotic locations and extravagant sets. The “have been” there scenes does manage to bring out a laugh or two.

Jackie Chan has a large heart and tries hard; it is obvious that the reflexes are not like it used to be, yet he entertains like he always does. Knoxville makes up for Chan’s pace and comes out impressive in his role. Fan Bingbing is pretty and the others in the cast are the usual profiles that you regularly see in a JC movie.

Technically, the movie is visually appealing, but action scenes, the cornerstone of a Jackie Chan movie is substandard. The dialogues are petty and the editing in this jumpy script does not cover up the flaws. The director Renny Harlin, does an average job in this very mediocre script.

Skiptrace might excite some of Jackie Chan fans and might disappoint a lot more. What is undeniable is the ability of Jackie Chan to pull out from his worn out bag tricks that still sell..
