RUBAAI MOVIE REVIEW

RUBAAI is a Prabhu Solomon production and has Anbazhagan of Saatai fame writing and directing this film. It has Chandran of Kayal fame playing the lead role.

Anbazhagan takes the PS route of film making and even the scripting reflects a lot like Prabhu Solomon’s movies. The story begins in slow motion and as the movie progresses it gains pace. The movie’s attempt at trying to convey a social message does not work well. The comedy is here and there. The pace of the movie hampers the movie as well as the contrived settings and the “easy” logic makes the movie very predictable. The advantage of the movie is the thrill that though unconvincing manages to hold the audience. The climax too gets a Prabhu Solomon feel. It is surprising and encouraging that the film’s hero has very little to do and the others who have a lot more to do.

Could it be because of PS that Chandran took this totally insignificant role? He is a dummy in the whole movie and is in a supporting role than the hero. He tries his best to look and act like Surya. The heroine Anandhi too has nothing much to do except dance in a few songs and be part of the group. The same deglam look and the poor innocence face is all that she has to show. It is Chinni Jeyanth who walks away with the honours in the acting department. He gets a very meaty role and is at his best. He overwhelms everyone one with his honest portrayal and shoulders the movie.
The movie has a low budget and yet the teams behind the scenes do a good job not to show it. Music by D Iman is a huge let down, he just mixes matches his old PS songs. Cinematography by Elayaraja is just decent while editing by Nirmal leaves a lot to be desired. The dialogues are OK while Anbazhagan’s direction does not click this time.
