ORU NAAL KOOTHU MOVIE REVIEW

Oru-Naal-KoothuClose on the heels of a cold “Iraivi” comes the warm hearted “Oru Naal Oru Koothu”. The link between the two movies is that both touch on feminism. Nelson Venkatesan manages to pull of what the much hyped Karthuk Subburaj tried in his own amusing way.  ONOK majorly belongs to the old school of movie making. Some might not accept it.

The story travels on two tracks leisurely with a generous dose of humour sprinkled to keep the audience engaged. With a lot of scope to go overboard it’s appreciable that the writer and the director have kept the script afloat without being too deary. The way the characters unfold is well done. The women in the movie have been showcased strongly and the issue of marriage is dealt wittily, especially after the movie ends.

Performances from the female leads are top notch. Dinesh unfortunately sticks out like a sore thumb among the fine performers. He sticks with three expressions throughout the movie making it difficult to differentiate between them. Ramesh Thilak fits to T the character he plays. The supporting casts do their job well.

Dialogues are simple yet smart. The screenplay could have been tighter but it’s the dialogues and the background score that overcome the slowness. Justin Prabhakaran is the “Hero” of the movie. With an excellent song in “Adiye Azhage” and some very good songs it is background score that holds the scenes together.

ONOK is sincerely told. The end could have been better staged but it will not take away much from the writer/director from their efforts in presenting an honest and straightforward movie. ONOK is the “Iraivi” of today.
