MADURA VEERAN MOVIE REVIEW

Maduraveeran is by cinematographer turned director P.G.Muthiah. Produced by Viji Subramaniam for V studios.

The story of Maduraveeran is nothing new and very simple. The simplicity of the story works to its advantage as well as the surprises. What pull down the movie big time are the production budget and the naïve execution of a decent idea. The “TV” quality execution despite being a movie of the heir of a huge star dampens any excitement. But again despite lack of surprises the cliché heroism is done away with and that’s a fresh initiative.

Shanmuga Pandian has a towering personality and has tried hard to emote and act but mostly ends up with one standard expression. Meenaksh as his love interest tries to compensate by “over acting” with her overboard expressions. Samudrakanni is the hero of the film and does a good job weakly supported by the rest of the star cast.

PG Muthaiah wields the camera himself and does a decent job though drawbacks are evident. Santhosh Dayanidhi scores the music, with his folksy tunes and decent background score comes out good. Praveen KL is the editor who could have shortened a few scenes. Dialogues are OK while direction is found wanting.

MADURAVEERAN with its focus on jallikattu, caste rivalry and Tamil pride might find a few takers.

MADURAVEERAN – MANDHAM !!
