MAAYAVAN MOVIE REVIEW

MAAYAVAN is CV Kumar’ s debut venture as a writer director after an impressive innings in producing interesting movies.

As with the rote in Kollywood the story of Maayavan too is a sci fi thriller with doses of psychology. The movie begins as a psychological thriller quite well and does not waste time in establishing its characters. Unfortunately the film suffers once the movie shifts in its intent to turn into a sci fi thriller. A sense of immaturity and mendaciousness creeps into the writing and as a result the story suffers. A lot of doubts creep even after the movie ends and this results in an unsatisfied feeling despite a very strong premise for the movie.

Sundeep as the cop is honest in his portrayal while Daniel Balaji needs no recommendations for being a psychopath. Perhaps a different actor could have given a different contour to not just the character but the film as well. Jackie Shroff is all swag and nothing more while the heroine Lavanya Tripathi appears and disappears when and where required. Others do their bit.

Cinematography is by Gopi Amarnath and does a decent job as required. Gibhran scores the music and is inconsistent in songs as well as the background score. Dialogues are good, editing by Leo John is rudimentary. CV Kumar for a first time director is OK.

MAAYAVAN despite good potential turns out to be an average fare..
