KADUGU MOVIE REVIEW

Writer/ Director Vijay Milton has had a see saw time at the box office with his movies. His last outing with Vikram disappeared from the cinema screens in 10 days and he had to get back to his moorings to redeem himself. Kadugu is an attempt at that.

What works well for Kadugu is its total disregard for stardom and it’s close to the script casting. The characters are well etched and have a sound premise and are very well related to each other. The story and its setting are very realistic and most of the cases the audience will be able to relate to it. The plot has a mix of the dark, the grey and the fair but Kadugu falters in trying to be a little preachy. The scenes tend to get melodramatic though the intention is right. The dialogues too try to go overboard at places and this pulls the content down. It also would not be unfair to say that Bharath’s character is a little confusing without any clear provocation.

Kadugu owes its realism to its performers, if Rajkumaran is the surprise package who eases into the role of Puli, Bharath goes back to his hey days performing strictly as the script dictates. Radhika as Ebby looks a natural and Bharath Seeni too is decent in his role. The others support the movie very well and provide strong help.

Cinematography is by VijayMilton and he is a natural with the lenses keeps it faithful to the scenes, editing by John Abraham is fine though it could have worked at a few places, Music by Arunagiri and Anoop selin for the background and songs is standard. The dialogues work on and off while the direction department holds forte.

Kadugu chalks a different path from the regular Tamil films that get dished out every week. A bold attempt, a solid plot and strong characters are its strength while there are moments it can be a little dreary.

KADUGU – KARUTHU !!
