IVAN THANTHIRAN MOVIE REVIEW

R. Kannan, assisted Mani ratnam but is known for his own brand of movies and is now back with Ivan Thanthiran a movie promoted as a movie of and for engineers.

The story of the movie is not new nor is its execution; you have the same formulae of a main lead with a side kick who take on the villain and his protégés for a social cause. The only difference is that technology is used, as the hero the sidekick and the heroine are engineers. There is nothing new and even the comedies click sparingly while most of the times it falls just flat. It is just that a few thrill moments manage to keep the audience engaged while the romance that crops out of nowhere stalls the already slow progress and ends like expected.

Gowtham Karthik seems to be improving with every film, wonder whats with his make up that looks so inconsistent. RJ Balaji keeps smattering the dialogues that he is known for but most of them fall flat. His one expression and monotonous dialogue delivery can get tiring.  Shraddha Srinath is adequate in her weak role while others manage good support.

Cinematography by Prasanna Kumar works well, while music by Thaman sticks to his template, the songs are like speed breakers. Dialogues are OK while the editor does a standard job. Direction is pretty functional with no great moments.
On the whole Ivan Thanthiran has nothing new to offer and that could be a reason to go without any expectations.
