Don’t Breathe Movie Review

dont-breath-movie-posterFede Alvarez returns after the uninspiring remake of “Evil Dead” with an original script in Don’t Breathe. Indulging in a genre that is almost on fatigue mode what is it that Fed has to offer in his new script?

Surprisingly the plot of the movie is very simple, but the writer cleverly weaves this petty premise in a riveting script and that works wonderful for the movie. With minimal characters, all of them grey, one location and darkness, the story is gripping with shocks throughout. The movie takes on an aggressive mode right from the start and is ruthless in pursuing it till the end. Though there are “I know” moments, the tight script with less dialogues and more action keeps the viewer engrossed till the end.

It would not be an exaggeration to say the movie rests on some amazing performances and Lang towers above the rest with his intimidating physical presence. As the menacing blind man he terrifies the viewers. The other few in the cast provide able support.

Movies like these rely more on technical brilliance and DB does not disappoint. The camera work right from the very first scene takes us on a thrill ride and slurps the viewer in. The editing is crisp and the background score is subtle, but very effective in keeping the mood tight. The dialogues are few but consistent and the direction is creative, refreshing and kicks this genre into life again.

DON’T’ BREATHE is not the perfect film, it does have its cliché moments but it makes up with its shrewdness and lack of dull moments. It clearly illustrates how a straightforward story can be told in an engrossing way, all the way..

DON’T BREATHE – DON’T MISS !!!
