ARUVI MOVIE REVIEW

ARUVI is  Arun Prabhu Purshothaman’s debut venture that has got a release after a long wait. Dream Warrior Pictures have produced the film which has already commanded a huge interest for its quirky trailer.

The brilliance of “Aruvi” is its effortless story telling that stays true to its title. The movie rains on you loads of emotions that are so cleverly crafted. Aruvi is one of the very rare movies that can be entertainingly dramatic. Aruvi is an experience based on the protagonist, who happens to be the female lead of the film and the story is her experiences, through which the film delivers “knock out” punches that hurt but do not injure. It is a statement on our character, our purpose and our mindless occupation for greed as well as our hypocrisy that repeatedly gets taunted. The beauty of Aruvi is the way she unfolds without having to feel like a victim, without vindicating herself, just asserting herself amazingly and in a very unique way.  Unlike most movies, she does not take help of her gender to reinforce anything, she is not chauvinistic. Everything that she does has a sense of nonchalance, that is neither loud against any system or practice nor her aggression a fake; she is the way she is; free flowing. The way the movie conveys every emotional aspect of human life caressed with impressive contours is a treat to watch.

Aditi Balan, could “Aruvi” have been any good without her? Aditi delivers a mind blowing performance. So nuanced and never over the top, even when the situation could have demanded so, Aditi delivers easily one of the best ever debut performances ever for a male or female. Her wonderful portrayal of the character makes “Aruvi” a riveting watch for the viewer. Aditi is superbly supported by Anjali Varathan and Shobha Parthasarathy. The rest of the cast too perform admirably making Aruvi a compelling watch.

Technically Aruvi is seamless as the film itself, the frames are not forced nor are they aesthetically shot to be eye catchy. Shelly Calist the cinematographer shoots the film amazingly well capturing the ethos of the scenes and transporting them to the viewers truthfully. Raymond Derrick the editor ensures that Aruvi flows incessantly. Dialogues are hard hitting, while music the centre piece of the film by Bindhu Malini and Vedanth Bharadwaj soars hitting the right notes. Arun Prabhu Purushothaman has had a dream debut and now has a tough task on hand to exceed what he has achieved.

ARUVI, easily is the best film to come out of Kollywood this year and perhaps even in a few years. A solid film, that indulges, but is never over the top or preachy.

ARUVI – Get soaked !!!!

ARUVI – ARIVAZHAGI !!!
