Amma Kanakku Movie Review

Amma-KanakkuAmma Kanakku is a faithful remake of the critically acclaimed “Nil Battey Sanatta” which got rave reviews for its message and performances. The original director Ashwin takes charge in the Tamil version as well. Dhanush’ Wunderbar films has produced this film.

AK has a very good story that focusses on education and the importance of it. The sensitive script also showcases the struggle of the average poor family to whom education is still a luxury and the desperation to belong to the educated class. Though the Hindi version sounded a little more humorous the Tamil version looked and sounded very somber.

Though the story and script work very well, it’s the performance of the lead pair that makes the movie rather dull. The lead pair flip flop throughout. Some places they are quite good and sometimes they are too very ordinary. Revathi is spirited and the rest of the cast too are OK.

Ilayaraja behind the scenes does good and the cinematography and the editing is quite good. The dialogues are fine though they could have been a lot better. Ashwin and the team deserve appreciation for taking up a fine script with a message.
