SUPERCHEF CHENNAI 2018

This past weekend, SuperChef Chennai was back with its super successful International Food Carnival for food lovers of Chennai, as well as an exciting cooking contest for the city’s budding chefs!

On February 3 & 4, 2018, food lovers from across the city were treated to a weekend to remember! Packed with culinary delights, celebrity chefs and thrilling cook-offs, the SuperChef Chennai Contest & International Food Carnival 2018 was an event not to be missed. Organised by the Madras Cosmopolitan Ladies Circle 38 and the Madras Cosmopolitan Round Table 94, this annual fundraiser was made possible with the partnership of The Park Hotels, Chennai and Nova, as well as with the support of the Arcot Foundation.

The International Food Carnival, held on February 3, 2018, offered highly exclusive out-of-the-box food vendors, and a multitude of exotic cuisines from around the globe – quite literally, ‘The World On A Platter’. With the historic Amir Mahal grounds as its venue, it attracted close to 4000 people. Along with exceptional delicacies from the kitchens of the Nawab of Arcot, Italian, French, Singaporean, Mediterranean, British, American and various other cuisines were on offer. Patrons were taken on a culinary safari around the world. From delectable barbeque on a bike and heavenly waffles, to delicious biryani and goli soda, the carefully curated vendors offered a variety of scrumptious food. Live music and dance, an interactive magician and exciting entertainment for children made it a carnival in the true sense of the word, and a delight to the senses. And if that weren’t enthralling enough, the famous duo of Rocky & Mayur, from the popular show ‘Highway on my Plate’, explored the flavoursome fare alongside carnival guests.

The SuperChef Contest at the Park Hotel, Chennai witnessed a display of Chennai’s hidden culinary talent. Anyone with a passion for cooking qualified to participate, and had their creations sampled by renowned chefs from across the country. With over 70 participants in the ‘Adult Individual’ category, 50 in the ‘Adult Team’ division, and 30 kids’ teams, the coveted title of SuperChef Chennai 2018 was hotly contested by the city’s budding chefs. Celebrity judges included Chef Vicky Ratnani, Chef Aditya Bal, Rocky & Mayur and Mallika Badrinath. Not surprisingly, the junior chefs’ creations, seasoned with loads of enthusiasm and imagination, impressed the judges the most. Numa Shafeen and Manha won the junior chefs’ category, while Kavitha Bothra walked away with the ‘Adult Individual’ SuperChef Chennai title. Asha Hariharan and Arthy Menon comprised the winning team of the ‘Adult Team’ division. A myriad of exciting prizes were awarded to the winners. The Awards Night was celebrated with a grand dinner party, where soulful music by Surabhi Kurmi and Shahbaz Bukhari from A. R. Rahman’s KM Conservatory captivated the audience.

All of the proceeds raised will be donated, in their entirety, to various charitable efforts in healthcare and education, as well as to other community service initiatives.
