Dr.Kannan Pugazhendi, a phenomenon in the field of Sports Medicine was an enigma to his contemporaries until he was noticed for concepts in the field of Sports Medicine. His congruence, belief and great practice developed into a trailblazing concept and were established as SPARRC (Sports Performance Assessment Rehabilitation Research Counseling Institute) Institute in 2006.
Today, as the SPARRC Institute celebrates its twelfth year of existence, it functions across major cities, with 13 Centre’s in the country and overseas. SPARRC stands unique for its concepts such as surgery – less treatment for avoiding unnecessary surgery wherever and whenever possible through a conservative management of holistic therapy and rehabilitation.
SPARRC Institute bloomed organically with Aqua therapy with an infrastructure of warm pool, Exercise Physiology lab, Biomechanics lab, Indoor running track, FAMES (Fitness Adaptation and Movement Education Service for the specially abled) and most recent advancements in the field of Sports Medicine.
It is Dr. Kannan Pugazhendi’s expertise in Sports Medicine and Ms. Sujatha Pugazhendi, Managing Director’s passion towards entrepreneurship that has been responsible for SPARRC Institute to evolve in a big way in a short duration and we take pride in calling ourselves “The pioneers of Sports Medicine in India”, with a Sports Medicine team of Sports and Fitness Medicine Physicians, over 200 Physiotherapists, Fitness trainers, Occupational therapists, Speech therapists, Special Educators ,Nutritionists and Sports Coaches.
A volume of more than 1 lakh professionals are trained by the Institute in the field of Sports and Fitness in a decade and launched SPARRC TRUST – INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORTS MEDICINE a dedicated educational institute with one of a kind brand new courses such as BSc. Fitness and Lifestyle modifications(for plus 2 students), Fellowship in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Fellowship in Fitness Medicine and Lifestyle diseases Management ( for MBBS graduates) that is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University in 2017.
They celebrated the joyous occasion of the evolution of SPARRC Institute, and celebrated the achievements of SPARRC Institute over the past 12 years on February 17, 2018. The occasion also marked the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Sports Medicine. Thiru ESL Narasimhan, Hon. Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, has graced the occasion as their Chief Guest and Mr. Cedric D’Souza, Austrian Hockey Coach as their special invitee. This milestone event saw the gathering of people from various walks of life, and some unsung heroes were given salutes for their contribution in each of their respective fields with the ‘Pride of India’ award.
