Pothys took great pride in honouring around 50 talented artisans for their invaluable contribution towards preserving the age-old tradition of weaving. These artisans specialize in weaving silk sarees across generations. As part of this event, Pothys also honoured successful inspirational young women from diverse fields. Pothys Young Women Achievers Award recognized and celebrated outstanding young women who have excelled in various realms such as the Arts, Entrepreneurship, Media and Sports among others.
With over 50 years of textile retailing and over 95 years of weaving experience, Pothys is one of the leading textile brands in South India for silk sarees & readymade garments. Speaking at the event, Mr. Ramesh (Manading Director, Pothys) said, “Our grandfather Pothy Moopanar was also a weaver 100 years back. He, as a weaver, built the enterprise ‘Pothys’. Today, we are still running the business as the 4th generation of the family. Since we are from the weaver’s family, we understand the nuances involved in the business. He puts his mind, heart and soul in it to bring out one exclusive ‘Samudrika Silk’ saree. Isn’t it our duty and responsibility to encourage and recognise these weavers? For this, Pothys is honouring 50 weavers with the ‘Pothys Samudrika Best Silk Weaver Award’.
